STEP BY STEP

From first sketch to finished treasure

01

First consultation

Getting a piece of personalised fine jewellery made usually starts with an initial free consultation. You make an appointment to meet Eckart Johannes at his studio / showroom in Cleveland, Qld 4163. The first meeting is to get to know each other and discuss what you have in mind. This is a no pressure meeting to explore what you really want, how it could be made and what the next steps will be. It involves some quick sketching to narrow down your design ideas.

02

Detailed written quotation

After your first appointment you will receive a detailed written quotation covering material costs, manufacturing costs and, if there are diamonds or gemstones to be set, separate setting charges. This helps you understand what is actually involved in creating your jewellery. Quotes are usually provided within a week. All work is done in house.

03

Technical drawing

Usually after the first rough sketch a much more precise technical drawing is provided, which is the basis of more fine-tuning until you are 100% happy with the design. Takes about one week.

04

3D model or silver mock up

To make sure there are no misunderstandings, the next step is the creation of a precise 3D model, which can be made of jeweller's wax or sometimes a silver mock up. This can take about two or three weeks.

05

Sourcing diamonds and gemstones

If there are gemstones or diamonds involved, they need to be sourced or purchased from the existing collection. Often diamonds are sourced and imported from the main diamond centres overseas. It takes about three weeks for imported diamonds to arrive.

06

Hand fabrication

Getting custom made jewellery created for you is a journey. There will be a number of further meetings to see the jewellery progressing, so that you as a client have full control over the design process. Any changes required are put in place before the jewellery is completed.

07

Valuation and aftercare

Eckart Johannes provides a free valuation document for any new piece of jewellery over a value of $4,000 for insurance purposes. Once you have received your new jewellery, you can bring it in for a yearly inspection and cleaning — a free service by your goldsmith. His workmanship is guaranteed under Australian Consumer Law.

WORTH THE WAIT

A wait list of 4 – 6 months

Eckart Johannes has been doing custom jewellery since 1984 and has a very good repeat client base who keep him very busy. He consistently has a wait list of roughly 4 to 6 months to complete your jewellery project.

Personalised fine jewellery takes a lot of detailed work to be made to perfection.

Clients usually say: “It was worth the wait.”
